............Weekly News updates from Doohamlet O'Neills GFC

31st August 2010

Shane J

A very good week on the playing field with our Seniors advancing to the semi-final of the Intermediate Championship with a seven point victory over Eire Og and also our talented Under 14 squad reaching their league final with a comprehensive win over Carrick.

Intermediate Championship:
      Doohamlet   1-08    Eire Og   0-04

A penalty kick midway through the second half by Ciaran McManus eventually broke the Eire Og resistance and Doohamlet took complete control in the final quarter and now advance to the semi-final stage.
Glen_Comiskey_v_Eire_Og

This game never really took off and Doohamlet were probably the better team throughout but a failure to convert scores always kept Eire Og within touching distance. Ted Duffy opened Doohamlets account followed by a Shane McManus fisted effort. Mark Murphy then hit Doohamlets third point within the first 15 minutes. Doohamlet forwards then missed a number of scoring chances and allowed Eire Og to hit the next two points from J. McMahon and a free kick from D. Tierney. Glen Comiskey scored a fine point from the right wing to close the half 0-04 to 0-02.

Doohamlet missed a goal chance on the restart when Shane McManus blasted at the Eire Og keeper and had further misses from Ollie Hughes and Niall J. Connolly before Eire Og made it a one point game with another converted free. This was as close as Eire Og got and when Niall Jim Connolly was brought down in the square Ciaran McManus riffled to the net from the resultant penalty. Further scores from Glen Comiskey, Ted Duffy, Shane McManus and Mark Murphy saw Doohamlet home with seven point to spare.
Mark_Murphy_v_Eire_Og

Again Doohamlets defence were superb with Gabie Casey, Marty Hughes and Shane J. Connolly outstanding in the fullback line. Half backs Kevin McArdle, Colin Walshe and Darren Connolly were rock solid and each willing to attack at will. Our defence only conceded four points (3 frees) and this speaks for itself.

Midfield paring of Glen Comiskey and Ciaran McManus worked tirelessly throughout and contributed 1-02 of our final score.

Our forwards must convert more of our scoring chances. We hit 13 wides over the hour. However there were some great scores taken from Shane McManus, Mark Murphy and Ted Duffy. Niall Jim Connolly worked tirelessly at wing forward and Johnny Duffy when introduced also showed well. Doohamlet now await the winners from a backdoor qualifier game to be played on 11th, September.

Team and Scorers: James Casey, Gabie Casey, Marty Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle, Colin Walshe, Darren Connolly, Glen Comiskey (0-02), Ciaran McManus (1-0 pen), Ollie Hughes, Ted Duffy (0-02), Niall Jim Connolly, Mark Murphy (0-02), Shane McManus (0-02), Niall J. Connolly. Subs used: Pauric Marray for Niall J. Connolly; Johnny Duffy for Ollie Hughes.

U14’s Div 2 League Semi-Final:       Doohamlet   3-12    Carrick   0-09

Our talented U14 squad faced the daunting task of playing Carrick in this semi-final played at Doohamlet on Tuesday evening last. However this team showed no fear to their more illustrious opponents and led each quarter. Carrick had no answer to the power and pace of a Doohamlet team that have come up together since under 8/10.

M.J. O’Connor was solid throughout in goal and his kickouts were intelligent and fast. Matthew Byrne was outstanding in defence with his reading of the game and strength on the ball. Ryan Ingram also showed well after a nervous start and Jamie Walshe, Mark Connolly and John Duffy kept the  Carrick forwards well marshalled.

Midfield pairing of Barry McGinn and Damian Ward totally dominated this area and supplied ample ball to our eager forwards, Sean Loughman and Hugh McGinn flanked Conor Marray and all scored at will. Our inside forwards Matthew McKenna and Cormac McKenna worked their socks off for the team.

Ryan McManus, Jack Ingram and Dermot Kelly complete this panel and each and every player have given their all this season and to qualify for a Division 2 final is testament to their skill and hard work all season.

ACSC_0816 remarkable achievement for this for this group of lads. Hopefully all Doohamlet supporters will turn out on Final Day and gave these lads the support they deserve.

Blotto 30/08: No Jackpot winner, numbers drawn 7, 2, 5, 6, 4, 3, 1. Lucky dip winners Paddy Sheil c/o Crossroads Shop, Doohamlet; Daniel Connolly (Donal), Doohamlet; Lily Finnegan, Rossullus; Frank Hamilton, Doohamlet; Ger Casey, Doohamlet. Next weeks Jackpot €8,100.

Intermediate League:
      Doohamlet 1-08 Inniskeen 2-10

Doohamlet produced a Jekyll and Hyde performance on Tuesday night last in this Intermediate League fixture at O’Neill Park.

With the Championship clash this weekend looming Management made a number of personnel changes and this seemed to have an adverse effect of the teams performance. Inniskeen totally outplayed Doohamlet in the opening half cutting through the Doohamlet defence at will and Paul and Ronan Meegan the main scoring threat. Doohamlet were clearly struggling at midfield also and the few Doohamlet raids into the Inniskeen half usually ended with a wide or dispossession. Such was Inniskeens total dominance the half time score read Inniskeen 1-09 Doohamlet no score.

In the second half however the home side totally dominated the half and almost turned this game on its head. Doohamlet notched up 1-08 to a solitary point for the away side but this does not tell the whole storKevin McArdley as Doohamlet also missed a penalty and at lease three other goal scoring chances. One of these chances came in the final minutes when only two points separated the sides. However with Doohamlet in all out attack mode Inniskeen sealed the points with a classic counter attack which was fisted to the net and left the final score Doohamlet 1-08 Inniskeen 2-10.

Outstanding performance on the night were Darren Connolly, Gabie Casey and Shane Connolly in defence. Our midfield pairing of Glen Comiskey and Ciaran McManus took control in the second half and our foShane_J_Connolly_v_Inniskeenrwards showed their potential with Ted Duffy, Ollie Hughes, Niall J. Connolly and Mark Murphy all very much to the fore. Just a mention for our goalkeeper James Casey who notched another 45 his third in two games.

Team and Scorers: James Casey (0-1 45’), Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Niall Jim Connolly, Colin Walshe, Chris Malone, Glen Comiskey, Ciaran McManus, Gavin King, Ollie Hughes (0-01), Johnny Duffy (0-01), Niall J. Connolly, Stephan Gilsenan, Ted Duffy (1-03 2f), Subs used: Shane McManus for Stephan Gilsenan; Pauric Marray for Gavin King; Darren Connolly for Chris Malone; Kevin McArdle for Johnny Duffy; Mark Murphy (0-02 1f) for Niall J. Connolly.

Intermediate Championship Replay:     Doohamlet 0-07     Rockcorry 0-05

Doohamlet advanced to the next round of the Championship with a totally committed effort against Rockcorry at rain swept Blayney on Thursday evening last. Played in atrocious conditions of wind and rain throughout this was not a game for the football purist but both teams must commended for their efforts on the night.

Doohamlet defence were immense. Time and time again Rockcorry were dispossessed or pressured into mistakes and anyone of our defenders could have picked up the Man of the Match award. Glen Comiskey and Ciaran McManus won the midfield battle and gave ample supply to our forwards. This is the one area Doohamlet need to improve on. Too many times a wrong pass or wrong option taken. Over both games Doohamlet have hit an excessive amount of wides but this area can be improved on over the coming weeks.

Rockcorry opened the scoring before Niall Jim Connolly cancelled this score with a fine fisted effort. Mark Murphy and Stephen McGuirk swapped points from frees before Rock took the lead again with a Paul McKeown point. Doohamlet were now playing their best football and after a fine move involving Shane McManus who put Colin Walshe through on goal and was clumsily pulled down for a penalty. Ted Duffy blasted the penalty kick over the bar and further points were added from Shane McManus after good link up play with Colin Walshe and Niall J. Connolly. Ted Duffy punished them with a free kick to leave the half time score Doohamlet 0-06 to 0-04.

Amazingly both sides only scored one point each in the second half Ciaran McManus the Doohamlet scorer but this was mainly down to the deteriorating conditions and the defensive display of Doohamlet. Gabie Casey, Kevin McArdle and Shane J. Connolly wiped out the Rock full forward line and the halfback line of Marty Hughes, Colin Walshe and Darren Connolly turned Rock over time and again and set up numerous counter attacks. Doohamlet introduced Johnny Duffy and Gavin King and these players give fresh legs especially Johnny Duffy who won a lot of ball and did his share of tackling back. As the game entered the final minutes and the inclement weather showing no sign of let up both sides were practically out on their feet. Rock battled to the end for a match winning goal but Doohamlet now down to 14 after the dismissal of Colin Walshe (2 yellow cards) held firm and now advance through leaving Rockcorry to travel via the back door.

Team and Scorers:   James Casey, Gabie Casey Marty Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle, Colin Walshe, Darren Connolly, Glen Comiskey, Ciaran McManus (0-01), Niall Jim Connolly (0-01), Niall J. Connolly, Ollie Hughes, Ted Duffy (0-02 1f 1p), Shane McManus (0-02), Mark Murphy (0-01 1f). Subs used: Johnny Duffy for Mark Murphy; Greg Duffy for Ollie Hughes; Gavin King for Niall Jim Connolly.

Sympathy:   It is with deep regret and sadness that we report the passing of Rosaleen Connolly last weekend. A loving Mother, Wife, Sister and a caring friend Rosaleen passed away last Saturday Morning. We send our condolences to Husband Johnny, Sons Gary, Shane, Niall and Killian and her many family and friends. Ar Dheis De Go Raibh A Anam.

Championship:   Doohamlet play Eire Og this weekend in the quarter final of the Intermediate Championship. After our two epic battles against Rockcorry these games should be of immense benefit to our team and hopefully we can advance to the semi-finals. Throwin 5.30pm on Sunday next in Clontibret.

Congratulations:   To all our students who received their Leaving Cert results last week.

Intermediate League:        Doohamlet 0-10 Aughnamullen 1-07

After Doohamlets exertions in their championship clash with Rockcorry on Friday evening Doohamlet made 10 changes to their team for this league clash with Pauric MarrayAughnamullen on Sunday morning last. Played in ideal conditions this was a very entertaining game with both sides playing fast attacking football. Aughnamullen raced into a 2 point lead before Shane McManus restored parity with a brace. Pete Dooney of Aughnamullen rifled to the net after 15 minutes to give the away side the lead but Doohamlet chipped away and pulled the scores back to 1-03 to 0-05 half time score.

Doohamlet introduced ace marksman Ted Duffy after the break and within minutes of the resumption led by a single point. Aughnamullen refused to yield and reclaimed the lead with wing back Mark McArdle very much in the fore. The game now entered the final quarter with Aughnamullen leading by a single score and Doohamlet clJames Caseyearly not wanting to concede league points called for replacements off the bench. Colin Walshe, Glen Comiskey and Niall Johnny Connolly all entered the fray but it was goalkeeper James Casey who converted ’45, his second of the day to give both sides a share of the points.

Team: James Casey (0-02 45’s), Aidan Marray, Pauric Marray, Gabie Casey, Shane P. Connolly, Mark Hughes, Stephen Gilsenan, Gregg Duffy (0-01), Gavin King, Shane McManus (0-03), Mark Murphy.

Intermediate Championship Round 1:        Doohamlet 1-08     Rockcorry 1-08

A late Ciaran McManus point deep into injury time saw Doohamlet earn a reply in this thrilling Championship clash played in ideal conditions in Castleblayney on Friday evening last.

CSC_0150Ted Duffy opened the scoring after three minutes but a succession of wides from Ollie Hughes, Shane McManus and Mark Murphy allowed Rockcorry to creep into a 0-04 to 0-02 lead. Niall Jim Connolly rifled to the net after a fine move involving Ted Duffy, Shane McManus and Ollie Hughes just before the break and this score saw Doohamlet go in at half time 1-03 to 0-05 in front.

The second half continued as befColin Walsheore with both sides striving for dominance but after Rockcorry kicked a number of wides Doohamlet gained the upper hand around the middle third and, with quality ball now going into the forwards, scores began to flow. Points from Ted Duffy 3(2f), Ollie Hughes with a fine effort off his left foot and Colin Walshe from centre back got on the end of a fine move to curl over from 30 meters. Doohamlet were clearly the better side mNiall J Connollyidway through the half but Rockcorry rallied with Mark Daly keeping them in touch with free kicks. With five minutes remaining Rockcorry trailed by 2 and were handed a lifeline after they ware awarded a dubious penalty by referee Hugh McKenna which Mark Daly converted and the Rockcorry side now led by one. Doohamlet to their credit lay siege on the Rockcorry goal and with time almost up Ciaran McManus sent over a magnificent score to level the game.

Both sides must meet again on Thursday evening again at the Blayney venue with a 7.45pm throwin.

Team and Scorers: James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle, Colin Walshe (0-01), Darren Connolly, Glen Comiskey, Ciaran McManus (0-01), Niall Jim Connolly (1-0), Shane McManus, Niall Johnny Connolly, Ollie Hughes (0-01), Mark Murphy, Ted Duffy (0-05 4f). Subs used: Greg Duffy for Mark Murphy; Gavin King for Niall J. Connolly.

BLACKHILL TOURNAMENT WINNERS 2010

Philip Courtney Memorial Cup:
Doohamlet began their championship preparations by participating in the Blackhill tournament over the bank holiday weekend. On Friday evening last we played Drumhowan and with both sides fielding experimental sides Doohamlet came out on top and faced the host team Blackhill on Bank Holiday Monday.

Gavan_Duffy__Man_of_MatchDoohamlet after a slow start got to grips with these opponents and preceded to dominate in all areas of the field. Niall Jim Connolly was outstanding at wing half forward and finished fop scorer with 2-05 scoring two brilliant goals in the first half to leave the score 2-04 to 0-06 at the break.

In the second half Doohamlet upped the pace of the game and added further points from Glen Comiskey, Kieran Finnegan (2f), Kevin McArdle and Colin Walshe to open a substantial lead. Blackhill scored a goal and two points in the closing stages but Doohamlet had already this game sewed up and comfortably ran out convincing winners. Team Captain Glen Comiskey accepted the Philip Courtney Memorial Cup from his wife Bernie on behalf of the Blackhill Club and congratulations to Gavan Duffy who received the Man of the Match award.

Team: David Campbell, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Aidan Marray, Stephen Gilsenan, Kevin McArdle, Chris Malone, Colin Walshe, Glen Comiskey, Niall Jim Connolly, Gavan Duffy, Johnny Connolly, Kieran Finnegan, Rory McManus, David Johnston. Subs used: Mickey Malone, Brian McKenna, Gordon Lavelle.

Streamline Coaches IFL:
         Inniskeen 2-06        Doohamlet 1-13

A depleted Doohamlet side played Inniskeen on Tuesday evening last at the excellent Gratten facilities and produced one of their best displays this season. This fixture has produced some memorable clashes over the years and once again both teams served up another classic. With valuable league points at stake Doohamlet aiming to move top of the table and Inniskeen striving for a top four spot Doohamlet dominated the early exchanges. Shane McManus was on top form and opened the scoring after five minutes and rifled to Johnny_Duffy_v_Inniskeen_2010the net Doohamlets only goal shortly after. Inniskeen forwards were constantly repelled by a Doohamlet defence which was bolstered by the return of Colin Walshe after county duties, and Kevin McArdle, Gabie Casey, and Shane J. Connolly were very much to the fore as Doohamlet added further scores from Shane McManus and Johnny Duffy (2) making his debut at Senior level and Inniskeen had to wait twenty minutes before Paul Meegan scored from a close in free. Doohamlet were dealt a blow when Darren Connolly at No. 7 had to be replaced because of injury. Doohamlet were cruising for most of the first half playing fast exciting football and were leading 1-07 to 0-01 close to the halftime whistle. However Inniskeen were handed a lifeline when after a mix-up in the Doohamlet defence were awarded a penalty which was duly dispatched to leave the halftime score Doohamlet 1-07 Inniskeen 1-01.

Inniskeen had the perfect start to the second half when straight from the throw-in finished to the net and now only three points separated the sides. Shane McManus replied for Doohamlet with a fine point as both sides battled tooth and nail for possession around the middle third. Inniskeen scored goal number three and Paul Meegan levelled the game entering the final ten minutes. To their credit Doohamlet showed great character and composure and with Colin Walshe, Ciaran McManus and Glen Comiskey driving at the Inniskeen defence time and again and added further points from Pauric Marray, Ollie Hughes, Niall Jim Connolly and Shane McManus. Ill discipline saw Inniskeen reduced to 13 players as they reduced the margin to one but Doohamlet held out for a well deserved victory. On a sad note substitute Emmet McManus who replaced Darren Connolly in the first half had to be replaced after a nasty collarbone injury. We wish Emmet a speedy recovery.

Team & Scorers: James Casey, Gabie Casey, Marty Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Colin Walshe, Kevin McArdle, Darren Connolly, Ciaran McManus 0-1, Glen Comiskey, Niall J. Connolly 0-01, Shane McManus 1-5, Johnny Duffy 0-02, Ollie Hughes, Pauric Marray 0-01, Mark Murphy -1. Subs used: Emmet McManus.

Streamline Coaches IFL:
       Doohamlet 6-05       Currin 1-11

On a damp evening at O’Neill Park Doohamlet and Currin served up an entertaining clash in this league fixture with Mickey Conlon as referee. Niall J. Connolly was the star on show finishing with a personal tally of 5 goals and one point from play. He caused havoc in the inside forward line and once he had ball in hand a goal seemed almost inevitable

Niall_Johnny_Connolly_v_Currin_scoring_goalDoohamlet started the better but for all their possession were very wasteful in front of goal and kicked three wides within 10 minutes. Mark Murphy got on the end of a fine move and finished to the net with a sweet left foot drive. Doohamlet were now rampant and Currin defence were struggling to cope when Niall J Connolly followed a long centre and fisted to the net for his first and Doohamlet second goal of the evening. Currin began to win some ball around midfield and Jack McCarron opened their account with a well taken free. Gerard O’Callaghan added two more points from play while Shane McManus and Greg Duffy were off target for Doohamlet. On 25min Niall J Connolly closed the half with an unstoppable shot giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Half Time; Doohamlet 3 01 Currin 0 04

Currin had the perfect start on the resumption with a Jack McCarron point and the same player added another minutes later to reduce the deficit to four but this was as close as it got as Doohamlet added points from Greg Duffy and Shane McManus free kick. Currin replied with further points from McCarran (2f) and then Niall J. Connolly increased his personal tally with goals number 4 and 5. Currin replied with a goal of their own but Doohamlet closed the scoring with points from Ciaran Finnegan (1f) and Ollie Hughes. No doubt who was man of the match.

Team and Scorers: James Casey, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle, Ciaran McManus, Darren Connolly, Greg Duffy 0-01, Emmet McManus, Niall Connolly, Glen Comiskey, Mark Murphy 1-0, Ollie Hughes 0-01, Niall J. Connolly 5-01, Shane McManus 0-01(1f). Subs used: Ciaran Finnegan 0-01 (1f), Johnny Duffy, Gavan Duffy, Shane P. Connolly.

 Streamline Coaches I.F.L.       Rockcorry  0-12        Doohamlet  0-12

Doohamlet and Rockcorry served up a thriller in this Intermediate league fixture on Friday evening last as both sides strived to win the game and collect the two valuable league points.  Three times over the hour Doohamlet led by three points but a resilient Rockcorry side refused to yield and drew level  each time.

Ollie Hughes, Shane McManus and Ted Duffy scored the first three points and when Rockcorry cancelled these Greg Duffy, Niall Jim Connolly and Glen Comiskey with an excellent point after fielding  at midfield storming forward and tapping over gave Doohamlet another three point cushion but again Rockcorry replied.   Kevin McArdle and a Shane McManus second brought Doohamlets tally to eight but Rockcorry drew level on the half time whistle at 0-08 each.

In the second half Doohamlet again pegged on three points from a Shane McManus free, Niall J. Connolly and a tap over from Ted Duffy but Rockcorry showed their tenacity and came storming back.  All Rockcorry’s previous seven scores had been converted freekicks something the Doohamlet backs must work on.  Both defences were tackling tigerishly and forwards were now finding less space and scores were now at a  premium as the game entered the final quarter.  Doohamlet suffered a blow as Ted Duffy was harshly judged for an off the ball incident and saw red but Doohamlet showed great character and when sub Philip Mone tapped over it looked like a winning score.  However Rockcorry equalised again and as both sides fought tooth and nail for the winner the referee sounded the final whistle with Doohamlet on the attack but overall league points were shared and probably both sides deserved something from a very entertaining game.

Team:  James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly  Kevin McArdle 0-01, Ciaran McManus, Darren Connolly, Glen Comiskey 0-01, Greg Duffy 0-01, Niall Jim Connolly 0-01, Shane McManus 0-03(1f), Gavin King, Ollie Hughes 0-01, Niall J. Connolly 0-01, Ted Duffy 0-02(1f).   Subs used:  Philip Mone 0-01, Jason McElroy, Michael Marray.

Our U21 team suffered their first defeat in this competition on Monday evening last going down 0-12 to 0-07 away at Oram.

                                                                                                                                                    29th June 2010

U21’s:  Our U21 team  had their first outing on Monday evening last under the guidance of Gavin Duffy and Shane McManus.  This is a five team league with 13 players a side and Doohamlet proved far too strong for Clones winning 3-09 to 0-08.  Excellent performances from Chris Malone, Jason McElroy, John Sloane, Aidan Marray and Tommy Duffy in defence.  Johnny Duffy and Gavin King won the midfield battle and David Johnson, Michael Marry, Philip Mone, Alex Finlay and Eoin McKenna were a constant threat to an overworked Clones defence.  Special praise must be given to Stephen Gilsenan who took the goalkeepers jersey and was very assured throughout both with his handling and kick outs.

Congratulations:  To Colin Walshe and the  Monaghan Senior County team on reaching the Ulster final on Sunday last.  With our old rivals Tyrone as opposition the demand for tickets will be huge so anyone wishing to attend this game must have their tickets ordered before July 5th from any committee member.

Please Note: All tickets must be paid in full on collection.

Fixtures:  Doohamlet Seniors have a league game fixed for tomorrow night Friday against Rockcorry away at 8pm.

U16’s Div 3:  Doohamlet v Fergal O’Hanlons @ Home.   Throwin 7pm.

Doohamlet GFC Notes

IFL:  Doohamlet played Aghabog on Wednesday evening last and recorded a comprehensive win on a 3-15 to 0-06 scoreline.

Unlike the Championship encounter only days earlier Doohamlet were much sharper from the throwin and raced into a 1-06 lead and continued to dominate this game throughout.

Doohamlet have now reached the halfway stage of the league with 9 games played, 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat leaving us on 15 points in second place.

Field Developments:  Over the past number of weeks a lot of work has been put into our main playing pitch and our new training facility.  Due to a number of volunteers our training pitch has a beautiful surface and once the goal posts are erected will be ready for juvenile training and games.  Our main playing field is also almost ready for games with a little rain required for new grass to establish, it too will be ready for games.

Good Luck:  To Monaghan Senior footballers on Sunday next against Fermanagh.   We wish Colin well.

Well Done:  to all our students who completed their exams recently.

Congratulations:  To James and Charlene who married last Friday in our local Church.  We wish James and Charlene many happy days together.

Intermediate Championship:    Doohamlet  1  17   Aghabog  0  08

Doohamlet advanced to the next round of the championship with a twelve point victory over a gallant Aghabog side played in Ballybay last weekend.
Despite the margin of victory it was only after Ollie Hughes fisted to the net a Darren Connolly centre ten minutes into the second half and the scores level that Doohamlet began to play with a swagger and from that moment dominated the remainder of the game and tagged on another 10 points  to run out convincing winners.
Ted Duffy opened the scoring with a 20 meter free in the first minute but Aghabog showed their intention by scoring the next three points. In the second quarter Greg Duffy and Glen Comiskey took over at midfield and with further points from Ted Duffy (2f) Mark Murphy 1 and two excellent points from Greg Duffy saw Doohamlet go in at the break leading 0  07 to 0  05.

Manager Fergal Reel encouraged his players to raise their game in the second half but it was a gritty Aghabog side who rallied and brought the scores level at 0  07 each before Ollie Hughes scored the decisive goal . This was the spark that Doohamlet needed and points rained over from Niall Connolly Kevin McArdle Colin Walshe Shane McManus (2) Ollie Hughes Ted Duffy (3) and sub Jason McElroy closed the scoring to see Doohamlet into the next round.
Shane Connolly and Gabie Casey were very prominent in defence as was Ciaran McManus and Darren Connolly who made numerous turnovers on the half back line. Midfield pair Glen Comiskey and Greg Duffy put in another excellent shift and dominated throughout.
After a sluggish opening half our forwards clicked into gear after Ollie Hughes scored the desisive goal and five of our six forwards all on the scoresheet.
Colin Walshe Shane McManus and Niall Connolly all worked hard to get Quality ball to our inside forwards where Ollie Hughes at 14 was immense with Mark Murphy and Ted Duffy always dangerous.
Doohamlet now look forward to a clash with Rockcorry in the next round of this competition on a date yet to be confirmed.

Junior B Panel 2010

Junior B Championship:    Doohamlet  0-09   Truagh  1-09

Doohamlet bowed out of the Junior B Championship on Friday evening last going down by a goal to Truagh.

Doohamlet started brightly and opened the scoring with a fine point from Mark Murphy and as the half developed both sides traded scores.  Philip Mone began to find his range and scored two excellent points from play to leave Doohamlet leading at the break.  Doohamlet  0-06  Truagh  0-04

Truagh began the second half much sharper and scored 1-03 without reply and Doohamlet were struggling to cope with their slick passing.  However Mark Murphy responded with a point and Doohamlet began to get more possession around the middle.  The final ten minutes Doohamlet threw everything at the Truagh defence but just could not find that elusive goal.  Final score Doohamlet 0-09 Truagh 1-09

Team and Scorers:  David Campbell, Gabie Casey, Pauric Marray, Aidan Marray, Stephan Gilsenan 0-01, Jason McElroy, Chris Malone 0-01, Greg Duffy 0-01, Emmet McManus, Johnny Duffy 0-01, Gavin Duffy, Philip Mone 0-02, Mark Murphy 0-03, Michael Marray.  Subs used:  Kieran Finnegan 0-01 for Johnny Duffy; Barry Murphy for Michael Marray; James Casey for Stephan Gilsenan.

Streamline Coaches I.F.L.    Doohamlet    2 11   Eire Og   1 07

Doohamlet travelled to Scotstown on Sunday morning last to play Eire Og in this Intermediate league fixture and came away with a comfortable seven point victory.

Doohamlet began brightly with 2 points from Ted Duffy and a goal from Ollie Hughes who bundled the ball over the line after a mixup in the Eire Og defence saw  Doohamlet 1-02 clear after only ten minutes.

Eire Og replied with a brace of points from Donal Tierney playing at full forward and duly levelled the game after James Casey saved well from a penalty kick only to see the rebound crashed to the net.  However Doohamlet hit a purple patch in the second quarter and hit one goal and  five points, Ted Duffy 2(1f), Mark Murphy 2 and Niall Jim Connolly 1 and the  goal scored by Niall Johnny Connolly who had entered the game as a blood sub for Glen Comiskey who eventually had to retire with a nasty eye injury.GLEN_COMISKEY

The second half was mainly a low key affair as both sides failed to gain any momentum but credit to Eire Og who chipped away at the Doohamlet lead with the impressive Donal Tierney their  main scorer.  Shane McManus at the other end always kept Doohamlet in front scoring three fine points from play with Ted Duffy also chipping in with another point to finish with a personal tally of 0-05.

Team and Scorers:  James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Jason McElroy, Kevin McArdle, Ciaran McManus, Darren Connolly, Glen Comiskey, Greg Duffy, Gavin King, Shane McManus 0-03, Niall Jim Connolly 0-01, Ollie Hughes 1-0, Mark Murphy 0-02, Ted Duffy 0-05(3f).  Subs used:  Niall Johnny Connolly 1-0 for Glen Comiskey; Pauric Marray for Darren Connolly; Philip Mone for Gavin King; Michael Marray for Mark Murphy.

Congratulations:
Our Lady’s, Castleblayney claimed the Mallon Cup today (Wednesday, May 26) when they lifted the U-13 title in Omagh. The Castleblayney boys defeated Derry side Lumen Christi College 5-17 to 3-8 in the Ulster Colleges decider.
Four Doohamlet players played starring roles  in this success. Damian Ward played at centre back , Conor Marray and Barry McGinn at centre field and Jamie Walshe at full forward. Again well done to all concerned

Reserve League Div.2      Doohamlet  1  15   Drumhowan  0  06

Mark MurphMark Murphyy gave a master display of finishing in this local derby in glorious sunshine on Saturday evening last. Operating at corner forward he tormented the Drumhowan defence with his thoughtful running and lethal finishing. He  ended the game with a personal tally of 1  06 (1f). Not far behind for Man of Match performance was Philip Mone who had his bPhilip Moneest game to date in a Doohamlet jersey. Philip wearing  No. 10 gave an exhibition of power and pace and scored four points from play and was very unlucky to see a goal bound shot rebound off a post.

Doohamlet are very much in the running for a semi final placing and on this evidence will be among the favourites when silverware is handed out.

Others to impress on the night were Pauric Marray, Chris Malone and Jason McElroy in defence Greg Duffy at midfield and Johnny Duffy, Michael Marray and Glen Comiskey in the forward line.

Team and Scorers; David Campbell, Shane P Connolly, Pauric Marray, Aidan Marray, Chris Malone 0 01, Jason McElroy, Gavin King, Emmet McManus, Greg Duffy, Johnny Duffy 0 01, Gavin Duffy, Philip Mone o o4, Mark Murphy 1 06 (1f),Glen Comiskey 0 02, Michael Marray 0 02.

Subs Used;  Martin Doran, Chris Boylan, Keiran Finnegan, Michael Malone and Eoin McKenna.

Under 14's:   Our Under 14 team have been very impressive with their performances to date  and on Saturday last recorded their third consecutive victory against a highly fancied Truagh side. This group of players has been our  golden generation and have progressed steadily since 2007 under the guidance of Gerry McGinn, PJ Marray and Mickey McEneaney

Streamline Coaches IFL
       Emyvale 0 08  Doohamlet 2  13

A  blistering start from Doohamlet who raced into a 1  04 to no score lead within the first 10 minutes set the tone for this rather one sided game against Emyvale at Oliver Plunkett Park on Wednesday  evening last.

Points from Ollie Hughes Ted Duffy and Mark Murphy had Doohamlet three in front before Shane Mc Manus finished a fine move for the games opening goal.Emyvales  defence  were clearly struggling with Doohamlets pace and power and their forwards were starved of any ball .  After 15 min Emyvale  scored their first point after a break down the right but Doohamlet continued to dominate and Ted Duffy after missing  a glorious goal chance closed the 1st half scoring with two more points.
Half Time:  Emyvale  0 03  Doohamlet 1 06

Darren Connolly opened the scoring in the second half with a fine point from play and points from Ted and Greg Duffy extended Doohamlets lead further. A long range freekick from Ted Duffy somehow eluded everyone including the home goalkeeper and nestled in the Emyvale  net  and this summed up Emyvales evening. Doohamlet introduced  a number of players off the bench and one of these Niall J Connolly added two more points  from play.

To their credit  Emyvale  battled to end and tapped over some nice scores but in truth the game was over as a contest long before Referee Micky Conlon blew the final whistle.

Streamline Coaches IFL      Doohamlet   1 08    Donaghmoyne  1 09

Doohamlets unbeaten league run came to an end on Sunday evening last when Donaghmoyne emerged victors by the minimum margin.  Doohamlet have only themselves to blame for this defeat as they looked totally in control in the first half with points from Mark Murphy, Shane McManus and Colin Walshe before Mark Murphy found the net five minutes before the break.  Ted Duffy closed the scoring with a pointed free to leave Doohamlet a comfortable six points in front at the break.  Doohamlet    1 05  Donaghmoyne   0 02

In the second half however Donaghmoyne seized the game and tagged on points before a penalty midway through the half had the sides level.  Doohamlet were clearly struggling to regain any possession and try as they did could not break down a strong Donaghmoyne defence.  Doohamlet reduced the arrears to a one point  game with a Shane McManus point with five minutes remaining but with a relentless siege on the Donaghmoyne backline Doohamlet could not find the equalising score and with Donaghmoyne outscoring Doohamlet in the second half 1 07 to 0 03 held on for a deserved victory.

Team and Scorers:  James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J.     Aughnamullan  2 05      Doohamlet  2 11

Doohamlets unbeaten run in the league continued on Saturday evening last with a comprehensive victory over Aughnamullan

Two late goals by the home side in the final five minutes put a flattering gloss on the score line when Doohamlet became complacent but the result was never in doubt.

Colin Walshe opened the scoring with a fine long range point before Aughnamullan opened their account and indeed went ahead by two. This opening quarter proved to be the home sides best period until Manager Fergal Reel made a bold move. Niall Johnny Connolly was introduced for his first start since his return and Colin Walshe was now deployed at wing back. This had an immediate effect as Doohamlet now looked a more potent force. Glen Comiskey scored his first of three before the games opening goal. An excellent pass from Colin Walshe to Shane Mc Manus who in turn put Niall Johnny through on goal and he finished with aplomb. Further points from Greg Duffy, Glen Comiskey, Niall Jim Connolly and Ollie Hughes put Doohamlet in a commanding position 1 08 to 0 04 at the break.

The second half began with Doohamlet adding further points from Glen Comiskey and Shane Mc Manus before Colin Walshe finished a fine move coolly slotting past a helpless keeper for Doohamlets second goal and effectively wrapped up the points.

Doohamlet introduced a number of players from the bench most notably Kevin McArdle who made a number of timely interceptions and scored an excellent point. Corner backs Gabie Casey and Shane J Connolly must be commended on their display and management can now see this team taking shape both with the starting 15 and the options they have on the bench.

Now we can look forward to our next challenge Donaghmoyne next weekend. Niall Johnny can be pleased with his first appearance and Kevin McArdle will also be pushing for a start as Doohamlet hope to maintain their position TOP of the league.

Team and Scorers; James Casey, Gabie Casey, Marty Hughes, Shane J Connolly ,Jason McElroy, Ciaran McManus, Darren Connolly, Greg Duffy 0 02, Glen Comiskey 0 03, Gavin King, Shane McManus 0 01, Niall Jim Connolly 0 01, Ted Duffy 0 01, Ollie Hughes 0 01, Colin Walshe 1 01.

Subs Used; Niall Johnny Connolly 1 00 for Jason McElroy, Emmet McManus for Gavin King, Kevin McArdle 0 01 for Darren Connolly, Mark Murphy for Niall Jim Connolly, Gavin Duffy for Greg Duffy.

Reserves:  Doohamlet Reserves played our local rivals Cremartin on Sunday evening last and can count themselves somewhat unlucky not coming away with the win but had to settle for a share of the points Doohamlet 1-09  Cremartin 2-06.  Rory McManus scored a fine goal 10 minutes from time and Doohamlet had a four point lead but credit to Cremartin who fought till the end and a goal and a pointed free earned a draw.

Best for Doohamlet were Aidan Marray, Stephan Gilsenan and Shane Patsy Connolly in defence.  Pauric Marray was immense in the middle of the park (until injured) and Philip Mone, Mark Murphy and Johnny Duffy when introduced were very sharp in the forward line.

Sympathy:  Doohamlet GFC sends its deepest condolences to Eamon McAdam, Oghill on the death of his wife Jean last week and also to the Collins family, Lisdrumgorman on the recent death of their son and brother Raymond.  Ar Dheis De Go Raibh A Anam.

Streamline Coaches I.F.L.   Tyholland   1 09   Doohamlet  0 12

Doohamlet were boosted by the return of Ciaran McManus on Wednesday last but this was tempered by the news Colin Walshe will be out for some weeks.  With both sides unbeaten in the league so far this promised to be a mouth-watering clash and the game certainly didn’t disappoint.

Played on an excellent surface and very favourable weather conditions Doohamlet started the better side and raced into a three point lead with scores from Darren Connolly, Ted Duffy and Ollie Hughes.  Tyholland opened their account with a free kick from Paul Askin and two further points had the scores level.  Doohamlet finished the half with another two fine scores from Shane McManus and Ted Duffy to leave the half time score 0-05 to 0-03.

The second half began much the same with Doohamlet dominating possession and adding further scores to increase their lead to five points.  With both sides playing some excellent free flowing football.  Tyholland enjoyed their best period of the game in the final ten minutes with Paul Askin and Gary McQuaid most prominent.

Tyholland scored 1-02 in these final 10 minutes the goal coming from Paul Askin after James Casey saved brilliantly from the penalty spot only to see the rebound crashed to the net.  Indeed Tyholland had chances to snatch an unlikely victory but referee Pat McEneaney sounded the final whistle and both sides were satisfied with a share of the points and remain top of the table.

Team and Scorers:  James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Jason McElroy, Ciaran McManus, Darren Connolly 0-01, Greg Duffy, Glen Comiskey 0-01, Niall Connolly 0-01, Shane McManus 0-02, Gavin King, Mark Murphy 0-02(1f), Ollie Hughes 0-02, Ted Duffy 0-03(2f).  Subs used: Kevin McArdle for Gabie Casey, Philip Mone for Niall Connolly.

This was Doohamlets best performance so far this season and Manager Fergal Reel is beginning to see his ideas being put into practice.  Our defence looked tight and compact and with Ciaran McManus and Martin Hughes the main axis well supported by Shane J. Connolly, Darren Connolly, Jason McElroy and Gabie Casey on the flanks.  Midfield put in their best shift to date with Glen Comiskey and Greg Duffy forming a good understanding and chipping in with valuable scores.

On Wednesday our attack which looked a little sluggish in our opening games showed signs of cohesion and when in full flow scored some excellent points after fast incisive support play.  Shane McManus, Niall Connolly and Gavin King started on the half forward line with Ollie Hughes, Ted Duffy and Mark Murphy on the full forward line.

Streamline Coaches I.F.L.:  Currin  0-09   Doohamlet  0-12

Five unanswered points in the final ten minutes saw Doohamlet claim victory against a very spirited Currin side on Sunday last.  Heavy showers before throwin made conditions hazardous for both sides and with the referee delayed because of the Monaghan Rally and a number of injuries this was a very stop-start affair.

Doohamlet were forced to field without Colin Walshe because of injury but Ciaran McManus returned at Centre back and was involved in the build up to Doohamlet first score from Niall Jim Connolly.  Ollie Hughes added a second point before Jack McCarron opened the home sides account from a close in free.  Both sides traded scores for the reminder of the half with the  battle of Glen Comiskey and Dick Clerkin at midfield being the highlight of the half.  Half time score:  Currin 0-04   Doohamlet  0-05.

Doohamlet raised their game in the third quarter but struggled to shake off a gallant Currin side and indeed the home side hit a purple patch midway through the half with Ben Clerkin, Jack McCarron and Gerard O’Callaghan causing a lot of problems for the Doohamlet backline.

Doohamlet introduced Kevin McArdle, Emmet McManus and Philip Mone and these changes had the desired effect as suddenly Doohamlet forwards got adequate supply of ball and Shane McManus, Ollie Hughes, Ted Duffy, Mark Murphy and Gavin King all hit over crucial scores to claim the two league points.

Team and Scorers:  James Casey, Gabie Casey, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Darren Connolly, Ciaran McManus, Jason McElroy, Glen Comiskey 0-01, Greg Duffy, Gavin King 0-01, Shane McManus 0-02, Niall J. Connolly 0-02, Mark Murphy 0-01, Ted Duffy 0-02(1f), Ollie Hughes 0-03.  Subs used:  Emmet McManus for Greg Duffy, Kevin McArdle for Darren Connolly, Philip Mone for Mark Murphy.

                                                                                                                  20 April 2010

Seniors:  Doohamlet Seniors began their league campaign with two fixtures against Aghabog away on Wednesday evening last and Rockcorry at the County training facility at Cloughan on Sunday evening.  These two fixtures proved to be highly competitive and Doohamlet although not very convincing held out for two hard earned victories.

Aghabog       1-07

Doohamlet   2-07

Two excellent goals in the first half from Mark Murphy and Ted Duffy  proved to be the decisive scores in this encounter  . Doohamlet suffered a double injury blow midway through the first half when full back Martin Hughes and centre back Ciaran McManus were forced off due to injury.  This was a massive setback to Doohamlet and management were forced to deploy Colin Walshe to centre half and Gabie Casey to full back.

Aghabog netted 15 minutes from time after a defensive error reduced the lead to three points but Doohamlet held on for a deserved victory.  Best for the winners were Martin Hughes and Darren Connolly in defence.  Our midfield pair of Glen Comiskey and Greg Duffy battled throughout while in the forward line Colin Walshe, Shane McManus, Mark Murphy and Ted Duffy were a constant threat.

Team:  James Casey, Jason McElroy, Martin Hughes, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle, Ciaran McManus, Darren Connolly, Greg Duffy, Glen Comiskey, Colin Walshe, Shane McManus 0-02, Gavin Duffy 0-01, Mark Murphy 1-01(1f), Ollie Hughes, Ted Duffy 1-03(2f).  Subs used:  Philip Mone, Michael Marray.

Doohamlet   0-09

Rockcorry   0-07

Doohamlet recorded their second victory of the week with a hard earned 2 point win over Rockcorry on Sunday evening last.   Forced to field without our inspirational leader Ciaran McManus due to injury Gabie Casey lined out at full back with Martin Hughes holding the number 6 position.  Both sides exchanged points in the first half mostly from placed kicks.  Ted Duffy finishing on a total of 0-04(3f) and Greg Duffy scoring two fine points from play leaving the half time score   Doohamlet 0-06  Rockcorry  0-04.

The second half proved to be a scrappy affair with both sides having difficulty with the slippy ball and underfoot conditions and both sides only scoring three points each in this half.  Doohamlet finished the stronger side after Rockcorry came within a point but a fine point from the left foot of Glen Comiskey and another from Shane McManus closing the scoring saw Doohamlet earning another two league points.

On a damp evening Doohamlet struggled to put their game together with Shane J. Connolly our star man in defence.  Midfield pair Glen Comiskey and Greg Duffy were most prominent scoring three points from play between them.  Up front Doohamlet struggled all evening dropping a lot of ball short and totalling a lot of wides.  Colin Walshe, Ted Duffy and Shane McManus were a constant threat to the Rock defence but a lot of work to be done in this area.

Team:  James Casey, Jason McElroy, Gabie Casey, Shane J. Connolly, Kevin McArdle, Martin Hughes, Darren Connolly, Glen Comiskey 0-01, Greg Duffy 0-02, Colin Walshe, Shane McManus 0-01, Niall Connolly 0-01, Mark Murphy, Ollie Hughes, Ted Duffy 0-04(3f).  Subs used:  Gavin King, Philip Mone.
